Found a junkyard engine harness that fit my civic for $40

Was at Pull-A-Part in Columbus last Saturday digging through a wrecked 2000 Accord. My 98 Civic hatch had a busted connector on the main harness from a previous owner's botched stereo install. Grabbed the whole thing for $40 at the register. Spent Sunday evening splicing in the relevant sections with some heat shrink and solder. Car starts first crank now no more intermittent short. Anyone else had luck matching harnesses across different model years at the yard?

Wait you actually spliced a JUNKYARD harness into your daily driver? That's asking for electrical gremlins down the road since those old connectors get brittle and corrosion hides in the pins you can't see.

Honest question though, have you actually tried cleaning up a junkyard connector before? I hit mine with some contact cleaner and a stiff brush, then packed it with dielectric grease (which nobody ever seems to mention). Driven it for two years now and zero issues. The OEM connectors from that era are actually pretty tough if you treat them right, way better than some of the cheap aftermarket stuff you'd buy new.
