Got told my junkyard alternator swap was a fire hazard until I showed the guy my 30 amp fuse inline

After a guy at the parts counter said my wiring looked sketchy I spent an extra $8 on a proper fuse holder and now it's been running my beater Civic for 6 months without a single issue, anyone else have a budget fix that someone called dangerous but actually worked?

A 30 amp fuse and six months of proof ain't sketchy, it's just not pretty.

Man, I was reading an electrical forum the other day and those guys were going back and forth about fuse amperage ratings. Half of them said a 30 amp is fine for most setups, the other half swore you need to match it to the wire gauge exactly or you're asking for trouble. Six months of proof does carry weight, though. If the system hasn't cooked itself by now, that's real data, not guesswork. But I'd still check the wire's rating in the morning, just to be safe. A fuse is cheap, a fire isn't.

Heard a similar debate on a car audio forum once, same exact thing. They said as long as the wire is thicker than the fuse needs, you're usually fine, but nobody could agree on the math. Six months without issues is pretty solid proof in my book, but I'd still sleep better knowing the wire gauge matches.
