Junkyard brake caliper had a hidden piston size I never checked

Pulled a caliper off a 2004 Taurus at Pick-N-Pull last Saturday for my 96 Civic swap. Sticker said it was fine but when I measured the piston with my caliper it was 54mm, not the 48mm every forum post claimed. The casting numbers were sanded off so nobody would notice. I bolted it up anyway and now my pedal is weird, soft then grabby at the same spot. Anyone else ever get burned by a junkyard part that was secretly reconditioned or off a different trim?
