Rocking a $40 eBay short shifter in my 240sx and it feels better than the brand name one I had before

Everybody in the scene says you need to drop $200+ on a name brand short shifter or you'll get sloppy throws and missed gears, but I've put 8,000 miles on a $40 eBay unit in my 240sx with zero issues. The shaft bushings were the difference, not the lever itself. If you swapped bushings and still have slop, what did you actually end up fixing?
