Update: tried a $15 junkyard throttle body instead of a $90 rebuilt one, and the cheap one actually ran better
Pulled a throttle body off a 2003 Civic at the Pick Your Part in Fontana last month for $15, mostly because the rebuilt unit at the parts store was $90 and I am cheap. The junkyard one had 178k miles on it and looked rough, but I cleaned it with a $6 can of carb spray and a toothbrush. Bolted it on, reset the idle, and the car settled at 750 rpm with no more hunting at stoplights. The rebuilt one I tried first actually had a slightly sticky plate out of the box and threw a P0507 after two days, so I returned it. Two months in and the junkyard unit is still holding steady, which surprised me more than it should have. Has anyone else had better luck with a pulled OEM part than a reman?
