My car got totaled in a hit and run and now I owe $9,400 on a car I can't even drive
Last Wednesday I walked out of my apartment in Denver and my 2019 Civic was just gone from the spot, turns out a drunk driver plowed into it and pushed it into a pole. Insurance called Friday and told me they're cutting a $7,100 check because of depreciation, but I still owe $16,500 on the loan. My payment is $380 a month for a car sitting in a junkyard right now and I have no gap coverage because I skipped it to save $12 a month like an idiot. I called the lender and they basically said keep paying or we'll wreck your credit, no other option offered. This is the worst week I've had in a long time and I have no clue what move to make. Do I just eat the payments for two years or is refinancing even possible when I don't have the car anymore?
