My credit union said no to a refi in 2021, but a $4 money order to a weird address in Ohio cut my payment by $87
Back when I had a 19% loan on a used Civic I bought in a panic at a buy here pay here lot in Dayton, my credit union turned me down twice for a refinance because my score was 590 and I had no idea what else to do. My aunt told me about mailing a written request to the loan company's main office instead of calling the 800 number, and I sent a $4 money order with it as a good faith payment, and about 3 weeks later a guy named Marcus called and dropped my rate to 9%. Has anybody else had luck going around the phone reps and just writing a letter, or did I plain get lucky?
Read somewhere that written letters get routed to a different dept than phone calls, so you actually reach people who can make real decisions instead of reps reading off a script. Sounds like that money order gave them a reason to actually open your file too lol. Writing stuff down always seems to hit different than sitting on hold for an hour.
