I mean, our group in Portland read 'The Great Gatsby' in 2021 and again last month, and the arguments were totally different

That's interesting, but it's not really the book that changed. It's us, and what's happening in the world. The first read was still deep in pandemic times, so the loneliness and empty parties hit harder. Now maybe people are talking more about the money stuff, with how expensive everything has gotten. The story stays the same, but we bring new eyes to it each time.

Just realized my go-to coax crimper was the problem all along

Cleveland basements are a whole different level of bad. That Akron job had a spot where the joists were maybe 14 inches apart and packed with old insulation. I had to hold my crimper sideways and work by feel because my head was turned completely to the side. Your old crimper catching on every joist sounds like a special kind of torture. I would have lost my mind.

My neighbor's kid just asked me why we don't just paint over rust

Florida sun baked that clear coat right off.

Working on a 40 story building in Chicago changed how I check door locks

A customer in Omaha once asked me to fix his computer's 'soul'

Man, that hits different. You hear about data weight in a way that makes total sense. It's never about the gigs or the megahertz, is it? That heaviness he felt is real, all those memories just sitting there. Makes you wonder what we're actually storing when we back things up. Gets you right in the gut sometimes.
