I dropped $600 on a career coaching program and got nothing useful out of it

Signed up for a 12-week program last year from someone who claimed to have placed people at Google and Amazon. All they did was hand me generic resume templates and tell me to network more, stuff I already knew. Anyone else regret paying big money for career advice that was basically common sense?

Respectfully gotta disagree with you here. Those templates and that advice might feel like common sense to someone who has spent years hunting for jobs, but a lot of people really don't know how to network or write a decent resume. Just because you knew it doesn't mean it wasn't valuable, you know? I've seen people get huge results from the same kind of basic stuff because they needed someone to actually walk them through it step by step. And the Google/Amazon thing probably just means the coach worked with people who had the skills to get hired there, not that they had some magic secret. The real value in these programs is often just having a set schedule and someone to keep you accountable, not some hidden knowledge. Sounds like you already had the foundation and just needed to put in the legwork yourself. Sometimes that's on you, not the coach.
