Serious question, is the push for everyone to get a college degree just wrong?

I own a small electrical shop and it took me 3 years to find a reliable apprentice, but the local trade school is empty while the university is packed. Has anyone else seen this gap in their field?

Honestly, that gap you see with the empty trade school is everywhere. We've pushed this idea that a four-year degree is the only path to a good life, and it's left a ton of skilled jobs with no one to fill them. Tbh, some of the electricians I know make way more than my friends with office jobs, and they don't have the student loan debt.
