Spent 6 months mass applying on Indeed, then one referral got me 2 interviews in a week
I sent out 200+ applications with nothing back, but when my old coworker Dana passed my name to her manager at a bank in Charlotte I had two interviews scheduled in five days, so if you're stuck in the resume black hole, has reaching out to someone you already know actually worked better for you too?
Man, 200 apps and nothing? That's rough but I kinda wonder if referrals are really as magic as people make them out to be. Like yeah Dana helped you out, but maybe the bank was just hiring hard that month and any warm body with a pulse got a call. I've seen folks get referred and still get ghosted, so it's not like knowing someone is some cheat code. Not saying it doesn't help, but one good outcome doesn't mean the whole system is rigged toward referrals. Timing and luck probably matter just as much as who you know.
