After 6 years painting trim the same way, my new guy showed me a better trick
Been running my own crew for about a decade, always cut in crown molding with a 2 inch angled brush. New kid fresh out of trade school watches me for 20 minutes, then goes 'why don't you just use the 2.5 inch flat with the corner pad?' I laughed him off, but he was super persistent. After he did a whole room in half my time with cleaner lines, I had to admit my old way was just stubborn habit. Still not sure if I should feel grateful or embarrassed, but my trim looks way better now. Any of you ever had a rookie upend your whole system?

Gotta push back on this one a little. I've been doing trim for 15 years and I tried that corner pad trick after seeing a video online and I absolutely hated it. Found it left smudges in the corners that I had to go back and fix anyway. Maybe your new guy is just naturally good with that tool or maybe it works better on certain types of trim, but I tried it on three different jobs and switched right back to my 2 inch angled brush after each fail. Not saying your way is wrong, just saying this isn't some universal upgrade that works for everyone.
