The downtown library reopening showed me what I miss about my old office job
I stopped by the main branch in Austin last Thursday during my lunch break from my new remote gig, and it was packed with people actually talking to each other, like at the help desk and in the study rooms. It hit me that I traded daily small talk with coworkers for Slack pings, and honestly, I didn't realize how much I relied on those random hallway chats until they were gone. The library had this whole career coaching corner with flyers for resume workshops, and I sat there for 20 minutes just watching folks get guidance face to face. My switch from marketing to data analysis was mostly about escaping open offices, but now I'm wondering if I overcorrected into full isolation. Has anyone else found a middle ground after going remote, like coworking spaces or volunteering, that gives back that casual human contact without the commute?
