Counted my scrap pile for 30 days straight and the number honestly embarrassed me
I started tossing every offcut over 12 inches into a bin instead of the trash, just to see what I was really throwing away on a basic cabinet job. After 30 days the bin weighed 190 pounds of usable maple and poplar, which is roughly $400 at today's prices. I always figured scraps were just part of the deal, but most of those pieces were plenty long for rails, stretchers, and drawer parts. Now I keep three bins sorted by length and I barely touch new stock for small stuff. Anybody else track their throwaway pile, or am I the only one who got sick of watching money go in the dumpster?
