My old boss said never trust a speed square for stair stringers, and after 40 steps I finally get it
Honestly, when I started framing in Boise my lead guy Rick told me to always lay out stringers with a framing square and stair gauges, not my speed square. I blew him off for two jobs because the speed square was faster and the cuts looked fine. Last week on a 40 step run the bottom tread came out a half inch off and the whole flight wouldn't sit right on the landing. Took me an extra three hours to shim and fix something that would've been right the first time. Anybody else had a shortcut bite them on a set of stairs?
