Old table saw fence vs. new one, night and day after 4 months

I swapped a beat-up contractor saw fence for a proper T-square style on my 1970s Delta in April. Cuts went from measuring twice and praying to dead-on repeatability, but the fence rails needed shimming to stay parallel. Anyone else deal with rail alignment issues on older saws?
