Router bit went dull mid-cut on a maple countertop

Was doing a final pass on a live edge slab yesterday for a client in Denver. Bit started chattering and burned right through the finish. Pushed through anyway. Lesson learned - swap bits halfway through next time on hardwoods like maple. Anyone else deal with burning on figured grain?

Dull bits burn maple, not figured grain.

Yeah, I've definitely noticed that with curly maple especially. Had it gum up a bit last week on some birdseye and had to stop and sharpen mid-cut just to keep from scorching the surface.
