Saw a framing crew in Portland use zip ties instead of hurricane ties

Drove past a job site off I-5 last Tuesday and watched these guys nail zip ties onto the top plates to hold rafters down. I get it, cheap and quick, but that's a 60 mph gust away from a lawsuit. In Oregon we get wind storms every fall, and Ive seen what happens when the inspector catches that. Has anyone else run into crews skipping metal connectors like this, or do I just have old school standards?

Drove past a similar site in Salem last spring, watched a crew zip tie the ridge beam to the posts too. Looked like they were building a giant Christmas decoration instead of a house. My buddy who does inspections said he found one where they used those plastic ties on the hurricane clips and the whole thing just snapped in a light breeze, luckily nothing had sheetrock yet. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather spend the extra 20 bucks on real metal than explain to a homeowner why their roof is in the neighbor's yard.
