Warning: bought a $180 dovetail jig that sat in my shop for 8 months before I gave up on it
I picked up a Harbor Freight dovetail jig last spring thinking I could knock out drawer boxes faster, and after fighting with the template settings on three practice boards I shoved it on a shelf and went back to hand cutting. Last month a guy in my woodworking group offered me $40 for it, so I ate about $140 plus the two router bits I bought for it. Has anyone actually made one of these work, or should I just tell people to skip them and save for a Leigh?
Three practice boards and you gave up? That is wild to me. I fought with a cheap jig for way longer than that before I quit. I'm talking a whole weekend, maybe 15 test cuts, burning through scrap pine like it was free. The template kept shifting no matter how hard I cranked the knobs, so every cut was a little off from the last one. You got out way smarter than I did.
