Spent 3 weekends chasing a rattle in my Miata, turned out to be a $4 bolt in the trunk
I bought an 01 Miata back in April and noticed a clunk from the rear every time I hit a bump on the way to the Saturday meet at the Roasted Bean on Main. I jacked it up, checked sway bar links, swapped out the old shocks, even replaced a wheel bearing, and none of it helped. My buddy Dave hopped in the passenger seat during a coffee run and said it sounded like it was coming from behind his head, so I pulled the spare tire cover off and found a loose jack bolt rolling around. Three weekends of busted knuckles for a bolt I could have tightened in 30 seconds. Anyone else got a dumb fix story that made you feel like an idiot at the next meet?
A $4 bolt in the trunk" is the most Miata thing I have ever read. I once tore apart my whole dash looking for a buzz that turned out to be a pen in the door pocket. The cheap fixes always hide in the dumbest spots.
