Dude at the junkyard told me my brake job was backwards, saved my ass

I was swapping rear drums on my 98 Civic in Modesto last month and a guy waiting for a bumper cover watched me for a sec. He said I was adjusting the star wheel the wrong way, so the shoes would never seat right. I mean, I'd been doing it like that for years on two other beaters and never noticed the pedal feeling soft. Took his advice, flipped the adjuster, and now the car stops way better. Anyone else had a random stranger at a salvage yard drop knowledge that fixed something you thought you knew?

Trust the old heads at the yard, they've seen every brake setup fail in ways you haven't.
