A $22 scanner from a pawn shop in Reno saved me from throwing parts at a P0302 for a week straight. Anyone else skip reading freeze frame data and just guess?
Freeze frame told me my P0304 only happened at 47 mph under light throttle, never at idle. Turned out to be a weak coil on cylinder 4 that tested fine cold. I parked it overnight at a shop with a scope and watched it break down once it got hot. That five minute scan beat the two weekends I wasted swapping plugs and wires on my old Ranger.
