Am I the only one who figured out at 2am that the oil filter on my 2008 Focus was upside down
Took me 3 oil changes and a driveway full of cardboard before I noticed the filter sits sideways and dumps everywhere when you crack it. Does anyone have a trick for catching that mess or do I just keep buying the big pans?
Man, I always figured the sideways filter was no big deal on those Focus motors, just reach in there and spin it off fast. Then I actually did one on my buddy's car and got a face full of warm oil, so yeah, I get it now. What finally worked for me was jamming a folded piece of cardboard up under the filter like a little ramp so the oil runs down into the pan instead of all over the subframe. It still drips some, but way less than before, your mileage may vary depending on how much room you've got under there. I used to think people were just being messy, turns out the car was setting the trap the whole time.
