TIL my dad's 'never buy the first year of a redesign' rule saved me from a $2,100 mistake
Back in 2019 my dad told me to skip the first model year of any redesigned car, said the bugs get worked out later. I almost ignored him and bought a first-year model with the new turbo engine, but he talked me into waiting a year. Turned out that first year had a known issue with the timing chain tensioner that a lot of owners hit before 40k miles, and the fix runs about $2,100 at the dealer. The next year got the updated part from the factory with no fuss. Has anyone else had a first-year redesign bite them, or did you get lucky?
