Why does nobody warn you that the rear spark plugs on a 2004 Monte Carlo need the engine rocked forward
Three weeks ago I decided to do plugs and wires on my 2004 Monte Carlo in my driveway in Toledo. Front three plugs took me maybe 20 minutes. The rear three are jammed up against the firewall with about two inches of room. I fought the first one for an hour with a swivel socket and a bunch of extensions and got nowhere. Called my brother who used to turn wrenches and he just laughed and said you have to unbolt the front engine mounts and rock the motor forward. That was it. Two bolts and a ratchet strap, motor tipped forward, rear plugs done in 15 minutes. I sat there mad at myself for wasting a whole Saturday. Why does the service manual act like this is normal and nobody on the forums mentions it until you ask? Has anyone else run into a car where a basic tune up turns into moving the whole engine?
