My $900 alternator lesson on I-80 in the middle of July
I was driving my 2004 Civic back from Reno when the battery light came on and the radio died, so I pulled over near Lovelock and found the alternator belt shredded, but I had no tools or money for a tow, so I patched it with a pair of my wife's pantyhose and drove 60 miles at 45 mph to a parts store, and it worked long enough to get a real belt, but has anyone else ever tried a temporary fix like that just to get home?
