Heard a cashier at Home Depot tell a guy he couldn't use a card under $5

This older fella in front of me wanted to buy a $3.47 box of screws and the manager said no cards under $5. I pulled out a five and handed it to him, paid me back with a buck and change. Been carrying a mix of smaller bills ever since just in case, never know when that rule hits.

Yeah the swipe fees thing gets thrown around a lot but come on, it's a big box store, not a mom and pop struggling to make rent. If Home Depot is really sweating the 20 cents they lose on a $3 card transaction, maybe they should look at their executive bonuses first. But honestly, is a $5 minimum that big of a deal? Most people buying one box of screws are probably grabbing a soda or something else anyway. Feels like we're making a mountain out of a molehill over a pretty standard retail policy that barely affects anyone.

Heard a guy on the radio talking about how small businesses hate paying the swipe fees on tiny purchases, so they make up these rules to save a few cents. Makes sense why a big box store like Home Depot would do it too, even if it feels stingy to the customer. Good on you for helping that fella out with the cash, that was a smooth move.
