Read a stat that the average American carries over $90 in cash on them... I keep about $15.

I was reading an article on my phone at the laundromat yesterday and it said the average person has around $92 in their wallet. I counted mine and I had a ten and a five. It made me wonder if that number is so high because most people use cards as a backup. Do you guys find you carry less cash now that it's your only option?

My wallet usually has a single twenty for emergencies. That average seems inflated by people who still run cash-heavy side businesses or get paid under the table. I wonder what the median amount is, because that would tell a more realistic story.

Yeah, @the_wesley has a point about the median being more telling. I switched to just carrying a twenty for coffee or parking and it's way less stressful.
