Six months of cash envelopes changed my grocery bill by $87 a month
Honestly, I used to swipe my card without thinking and my cart always ended up with random stuff. In March I switched to a cash envelope system for groceries, pulling out $300 every two weeks from my credit union here in Portland. That first month I had $40 left over, which never happened before with plastic. By August, I noticed I was averaging $213 per trip and actually meal planning around what I had. The difference is that cash makes me pause at the deli counter and think, do I really need this? Has anyone else seen their spending drop this much just from seeing the bills leave your hand?
