Back in the day, we used to judge soot buildup by eye alone.

Now I rely on a camera probe for accuracy.

I remember doing it that way too. The camera is just way more sure of things, even if it feels less hands-on. It gets the job done right, and that's what counts.

Totally! I switched over to the digital level on my phone years ago. It's just easier to trust the tech sometimes.

Nah, trusting the tech all the time makes you lazy! My gut and my eyes have caught things a camera missed before. Sometimes the old hands-on feel, like william_wood mentioned losing, is what really gets the job right.
