My brand new rod snapped on a job in Portland this morning
I finally upgraded to a stainless steel rod set after years of using the cheap stuff, and on my third job this morning in Portland the middle section just gave out while I was scrubbing a heavy creosote buildup. The top half flew off and landed in the homeowner's backyard planter, scaring their cat. Has anyone else had a brand new tool fail on them like this, or did I just get a lemon?

dude that sucks so bad i feel your pain. i got a new rod set last year and the clip on the second section broke on literally the first sweep i did with it. i was so pissed i almost threw the whole thing in the dumpster. what worked for me was i called the company i bought it from and they actually sent me a replacement section for free. might be worth checking if yours has a warranty or something cause that definitely sounds like a defect not user error.

Are you sure it's a defect though? Sometimes those clips break because people over-tighten them or twist the sections together wrong when they're putting the rod away. I've seen it happen a lot with cheaper rod sets where the tolerances are just tight enough that if you're not careful, you'll snap something on the first use. Warranty or not, it's worth looking at how you handled it before you blame the company completely.
