That old timer swore by vacuuming chimneys from the bottom up... I called him crazy for 5 years

Been sweeping for about a decade now and always did the top-down method like everyone else. Last month I tried this guy's advice on a tough job in Denver where the creosote was caked on real bad, and I'll be darned it cut my cleanup time by half. Anyone else ever try working backwards or is this just a weird fluke?

Man I heard a pro once say vacuuming from the bottom actually pulls the logs out cleaner than scraping.

Vacuuming from the bottom actually worked way better for me than I expected. I tried it after my regular scraping left a bunch of loose chunks that kept falling back down. The suction really does grab the logs and pull them out clean without knocking soot everywhere. Gravity still works fine since the air flow does the lifting for you. Just gotta make sure your vacuum has good power or it chokes on bigger pieces. Definitely worth trying if you're tired of playing catch with falling soot.

Why fight gravity? Seems like more work to go against how soot naturally falls.
