The day I saw my mother-in-law toss a whole jar of pickles because of the floaty bits
I told her those were just spice sediments and she saved $4 by fishing them out with a fork, so now I check my own jars before throwing anything away.

Saw a Reddit thread a while back where someone threw out a whole jar of sriracha because the dark red oil separated at the top. Turns out that's totally normal, just the chili sediment settling. My buddy lost a $8 bottle of fancy hot sauce the same way until his Vietnamese neighbor showed him to just shake it up. Now I always tell people to check labels or Google before tossing anything with sediment.
