Serious question, I used to think electric cars were just a fad for rich people

My cousin in Phoenix got a used Nissan Leaf about two years ago and kept going on about it. I finally borrowed it for a week last month and was shocked. The quiet ride was nice, but the real thing was the cost. I drove about 200 miles and it cost me maybe $12 to charge at home, compared to nearly $40 in my old sedan. I'm still not sold on the long trips, but for daily stuff, it actually makes sense. Has anyone else made the switch for mostly city driving and been surprised?

My neighbor's Leaf made me a believer, but I still wouldn't trust it to get me to the next county.

lucas_jenkins, it's just a car. How far do you really need to go in one shot anyway?

You said you wouldn't trust it to get to the next county, which is fair for an older Leaf. But @the_ivan has a point about most trips being short. The real question is whether your daily driving fits the car's range, not the one long trip a year.
