Spent $1200 on a home energy audit and it basically told me my house is fine
Everyone in my neighborhood group was raving about getting a professional energy audit, saying it would find all these hidden leaks and save a fortune. So I booked one, and the guy was here for like three hours with his blower door and infrared camera. The big finding? My 1980s house, which I was sure was a sieve, is actually pretty tight. The main suggestion was to add more attic insulation, which I already knew. For $1200, I got a fancy report that basically said 'your weatherstripping is good.' I feel like the push for these audits misses that some older homes were built okay, and the money might be better spent on actual upgrades, not just checking. Has anyone else had an audit that didn't really show anything new?

My neighbor had the same thing happen with his 1992 ranch. Paid for the full song and dance only to get a report that basically said his doors close all the way. Sometimes the peace of mind is the only upgrade you get.

Come on, that report probably caught stuff you'd never notice yourself. It's cheap insurance against huge surprises.
