The creek behind my shop used to run brown after every rain, and now it doesn't
I do pressure washing work out of a little lot near Mill Creek in Berks County. About 12 years back, every hard rain would push mud and gray runoff into the creek, and it would stay cloudy for two or three days. Then the township got a grant around 2019 and put in these rain gardens and curb cuts along the two streets uphill from me. I didn't think much of it until I noticed this spring that the water was still clear two days after a big storm, which never used to happen. Turned out the basins catch most of the first flush before it hits the storm drain. It's not a huge fix, just some dirt and plants, but it did more than the big detention pond they talked about for a decade. Has anyone seen small stuff like this actually work in their area?
