Hot take: My first 3D print failed because I skipped bed leveling

I spent 2 weeks trying to get a Benchy to stick to the plate. Tried glue sticks, tape, different temps, nothing worked. Then a guy at the makerspace in Denver watched me for 5 minutes and said 'your nozzle is 2mm too high.' Fixed it in 30 seconds and the print came out perfect. Has anyone else wasted way too much time on something that had one simple fix right in front of them?

But isn't bed leveling actually overrated if your printer holds it well enough?

Your nozzle was 2mm too high? Man that's wild. I used to be the guy who thought bed leveling was overrated, like just hit print and hope for the best. Then I spent three nights straight trying to get a first layer to stick on my Ender 3, even swapped out the whole hotend assembly before realizing my z-offset was off by like 0.2mm. Fixed it with a piece of paper and it printed perfect the first try. Made me feel real dumb but now I check it every single time before I start.
