Old foreman told me to stop wiping my tools down with WD-40

He said it attracts grit over time and I figured he was just set in his ways, but after 6 months of using a dry lube instead my calipers and mic case are way cleaner. Anybody else run into this or am I overthinking it?

Old foreman had a point actually... WD-40 leaves a sticky film that grabs metal dust and grit from the air. Dry lube or even just a silicone cloth keeps precision tools way cleaner in my experience too.

My dad used to coat his tape measure in graphite powder from locksmith supply. That stuff gets everywhere at first but it stays dry and doesn't gunk up the blade over time.
