Old timer told me to use HSS tooling on my Tormach last month

I laughed and stuck with carbide, then spent 4 hours fighting chatter on a simple aluminum job. Finally swapped to his HSS endmills and the cut was clean on the first pass - anyone else stubborn about tooling choices?

Hang on, did you use the same feeds and speeds with the HSS as you did with the carbide? I'm curious if you had to slow way down to get that clean finish. Carbide is great for hogging, but on a lighter machine like a Tormach, the vibration just goes crazy unless you're really dialed in. HSS is way more forgiving with chatter because it's softer and can absorb some of that shake. I had a similar wake-up call when a buddy handed me a 3-flute HSS rougher for my little machine and I finally stopped fighting it.

That three flute HSS rougher @garcia.casey mentioned sound like a game changer, what brand was it?
