Tool crib guy in Dayton handed me a 3/8 end mill with a chipped flute and the part scrapped on the last pass
I was running a batch of 40 aluminum brackets on the old Haas at the shop in Dayton and grabbed a tool from the crib without checking it close under the light. The chip in the flute threw my finish off and scrapped the part 20 minutes from done, so now I check every tool with a loupe before it goes in the spindle. Does anyone have a quick way to spot bad flutes without slowing the whole setup down?
