My neighbor told me my pour over looked like a mud puddle
I was making coffee on my porch last month and he walked by, said 'that looks like a mud puddle, not a bloom.' He explained I was pouring all the water at once, which just makes the grounds clump. I started pouring in small circles, just 50 grams at a time, waiting 30 seconds between pours. The coffee tastes way cleaner now, less bitter. Has anyone else had a simple tip totally fix their brew?

Sometimes a muddy pour over just means you need a coarser grind, not a new method.

Totally agree with @schmidt.willow, it's easy to overcomplicate things. A muddy cup is usually just a simple fix, not a sign your whole process is broken. I've wasted so much time changing filters or brewers when the grinder was the problem all along. Getting the grind size right fixes like 90% of pour over issues, in my experience.
