Switched from a blade grinder to a $40 hand grinder and the sludge in my french press vanished
I used the same blade grinder for about 3 years and always wondered why my french press had a thick mud at the bottom and tasted bitter no matter what beans I bought. Two months ago I grabbed a Hario Mini Mill on a whim and right away the grounds came out even instead of dust mixed with chunks. Same beans, same water, same 4 minute steep, but the cup went from harsh and gritty to smooth and actually sweet. The old grinder was smashing beans into powder, and all that powder was over-extracting while the big pieces stayed under. If you're still using a propeller grinder, what made you finally switch?
