Changed my mind about community college after talking to a welder in Wichita

Was dead set on a university path until I met a guy at a welding shop who dropped out after one semester and now clears 80k a year. He showed me his work truck and his house in cash. I'm applying to a trade program next week instead.

That welder must have looked pretty comfortable for you to switch gears that fast. What was the biggest thing he said that stuck with you, the thing that really sealed the deal? Hard to ignore a guy talking about paying cash for a house, that's for sure.

Oh absolutely, I mean my buddy had a similar thing happen. He was dating this girl from a totally different scene, artsy type, and then met a plumber at a party who was talking about how he paid off his parents' mortgage. My friend said when the guy casually mentioned he'd been to Italy three times last year, that was it. He called me later like "I think I'm in love with a man who fixes pipes for a living". It's wild how someone's confidence in their own life can just flip all your priorities...
