Dropped out to work retail, went back for a trade cert instead, and that was the game changer
I dropped out of a state school after 2 semesters because I was burning cash on classes I did not care about. For a while I just worked retail at a mall in Columbus for like $11 an hour and felt stuck. Then I tried going back to the same college part time and honestly it was a waste, same boring lectures, same debt, no real skills. So I compared that with a 9 month HVAC cert program at a local trade school that cost $4,800 total. The trade route was way better because I was in a shop learning to fix real units by week 3 instead of writing essays about stuff I would forget. Now I make $26 an hour plus overtime and I did not need a 4 year degree to get here. Anyone else notice that the hands on route just clicks faster for some people?
Wait, $4,800 for the whole 9 month HVAC program? That is wild to me. I always figured trade school costs way more than that, like I was hearing numbers closer to 15 or 20 grand from people I know. And you were actually in a shop working on real units by week 3? In my old classes we did not touch anything real until like month 4, and even then it was mostly watching the teacher do it. That alone would've sold me.
