I chose a $9/hr campus job over an unpaid internship and my advisor still brings it up at every meeting
When I was a junior at Ohio State, my advisor pushed me to take an unpaid marketing internship downtown. I picked a $9/hr gig at the campus rec center instead because I needed gas money and rent. She told me I was ruining my resume. I dropped out 4 months later anyway because I was failing two classes and working 25 hours a week. The rec center job actually taught me how to run a front desk and handle angry people, which is most of what I do now running a moving company. My advisor emailed me last fall asking if I regretted it. I told her I made $14,000 that year instead of going into debt for a job that paid nothing. Anyone else pick the paying job over the resume builder and get crap for it?
