My student loan deferment call took 11 months to actually work

Dropped out in 2019 with $23k in loans and thought deferment would be a quick phone call. Wrong. The first rep put me on a 3 month forbearance, then the billing system kept showing past due anyway. I called 7 times, got transferred 14 times, and one rep actually told me to 'just ignore the letters.' Last month I finally got a written confirmation, but only after I filed a complaint with the consumer bureau. Anyone else spend way too long fighting a simple administrative fix after quitting school? How do you deal with the stress of bills while trying to start over?
