Can we talk about how different Batman comics feel now vs the 90s, and who's to blame?
I pulled out my old Knightfall trades from 1993 last weekend and read them back to back with a new Batman book I grabbed at my shop in Cincinnati. The art in the old stuff had way more shadows and grit, and the stories let Bruce mess up for whole issues without fixing it by page 20. Now it feels like every arc wraps up clean in 6 issues so it fits a trade, and the colors are flat and bright. Some folks say this is just modern printing and digital art, others say the writers changed because of movies and social media. I think it is a bit of both, but the monthly singles I buy now rarely give me that same pit in my stomach. Which side are you on, did the art change or did the writing change first?
