The change in my dad's comic boxes after 20 years in the garage
I helped my dad move his old comic collection out of his garage in Sacramento last weekend, and the difference between the boxes near the door and the ones in the back corner was night and day. The ones by the door had yellowed bags and wavy covers from the heat, while the back stack still looked almost new. Has anyone else seen humidity do that much damage to a long box?
Wait, the ones by the door had covers that were actually wavy? That's wild to me. Like the paper itself warped into little hills and valleys just from sitting there? Twenty years of Sacramento heat cycling through that garage must've cooked them alive. I knew humidity was bad for comics but I always pictured it as more of a mold thing. The fact that the back corner stack stayed almost new proves it's all about where you store them, not just how long. My uncle's old books got wrecked the same way and he swore they were fine when he boxed them up.
