A senior tech told me I was wasting time cleaning thermal paste with isopropyl and a rag

He showed me how using a coffee filter and a drop of lighter fluid gets it off way faster with no lint left behind. Tried it last week on a crusty old HP laptop and it worked way better than my old method. Anyone else got weird little tricks like that for routine stuff?

Ha! Yeah, right? Next thing they'll tell me I'm supposed to use unicorn tears and a magic cloth. But for real, coffee filters are a game changer. I've been using them for years, way better than a rag that just smears the old paste around. Lighter fluid though, that's a new one on me. Might give that a shot next time I'm scraping off a decade-old CPU mess.

Oh man, that reminds me of the time I tried using nail polish remover on an old GPU and nearly melted the plastic shroud off. Have you ever ruined a part with the wrong cleaner?
