Finally caved and used a label maker for my server rack cables
I spent 4 hours tracing a single Cat6 line last Tuesday because I thought I could remember which port went where. After that I bought a $30 label maker and labeled everything in under 45 minutes. Anyone else stubborn about this until they wasted an afternoon?

Used to think label makers were for weirdos who had nothing better to do. Then I spent a Saturday ripping cables out of my patch panel because I wrote the port numbers in sharpie on a sticky note that fell off. Now I label EVERYTHING including the power cables. That little thing saved me more time than any tool I own.

You get it. That moment when you realize you spent hours fixing something that a 20 dollar label maker could have prevented in 5 minutes? That's a special kind of pain. I still have scars on my fingers from wrestling with a tangled mess of server cables that someone "organized" by color. Never again. Now I label the cables, the ports, the power strips, even the damn surge protectors. Makes life so much easier when you have to trace a line down later.
